What is the event about? Bicester Bike Day is an event for the Town organised by A2Dominion in partnership with range of local partners designed to promote cycling as a fun and safe way to travel and to bring the Town together at the start of the school holidays to celebrate the summer! Now in its 4th year, the Bike Day, which in the past has attracted 400 people, has even more on offer than before, with something for everyone including: Treasure hunt style bike ride, cyclo cross racing, pimp my bike, BMX flatland tricks display and workshop, outdoor ‘spin’ sessions, bike balance-ability training, wheels for all adapted bikes, face painting, crafts, games, competitions, a BBQ and refreshments, Bike Doctor fix and repairs and bike security coding.
Who should attend: Anyone! Whether you’re a budding cyclist, learner, or haven’t yet got a bike – there is plenty for all to see and do. Please note, those wishing to take part in the ‘Tour de Bicester’ bike ride and cyclo-cross racing will need to bring their own bike and safety helmet, however free bikes will be available on the day for use in the cyclo-cross, courtesy of British Cycling.
This year’s free event is taking place on Sunday July 19th, planned in collaboration with the first ever Bicester Cycle Sportive.
Bicester Bike Day is taking place on the Annex field of Bicester Community College (behind the Leisure Centre) from 10.00am – 3.00pm, with cyclists participating in the Cycle Sportive arriving earlier so they can be back in time to join the fun.
Programme for the day
8.30am – 28 mile cycling sportive – for those wanting to take on a cycling challenge!
Bicester Bike Day has teamed up with Bicester Leisure Centre to make this year’s event even bigger. It is also offering something for the more practised cyclist too by inviting riders to take part in a 28 mile cycling Sportive with British Cycling. Sign up at Bicester Leisure Centre or online. Riders who register in advance for the 28 mile route can pay a reduced rate of £15, or £20 on the day. Under 16s riding with a paying adult can take part for free! The entry fee includes feed stations, timing chips, and a rider’s pack with goodies, and a t-shirt!
10.00am: ‘Tour de Bicester’ treasure hunt style bike ride – great fun for all the family!
Participants need to arrive at Bicester Community College field at 10.00am in order to take part in the Tour de Bicester bike ride. On arrival, you will be handed a route map enabling you to make your way around Bicester’s cycle network, picking up answers from along the route. Once back at Bicester Community College field, you will be able to use the information collected to answer a Tour de Bicester themed quiz to claim your prize!
11.00am – 3.00pm: main event – activities for all ages throughout the day!
The whole day will feature stacks of activities, including ‘paint a pebble pet’ craft activity, face painting, games and bike balance-ability training for the younger children.
The popular Cyclo-cross racing with BMCC and Pimp my Bike with Oxford Youth Arts Project will be here again and new this year BMX Flatland tricks display and workshop with London’s Team Extreme for teenagers and outdoor spin classes with Bicester Leisure Centre, for those looking for a different cycling experience!
Another new participant will be Wheels For All, a national programme, that can provide specially adapted cycles for children and adults with disabilities and differing needs to be able to enjoy cycling activities on the day and for everyone to try and experience’
Cyclists will also be able to make their bikes safer with special security coding conducted by Thames Valley Police and learn how to repair their own bikes with our Bike Doctor Repair service.
11.30am and 1.30pm: BMX Flatland show and workshops from Team Extreme
Incredible spins, balance and technical tricks will be performed using bicycles in a way you have never seen before! Team Extreme will be performing two shows throughout the day with commentary and workshops to help you learn the tricks.
11.30am – 2.30pm: cyclo-cross racing
Open to all ages, Bicester Millennium Cycling Club (BMCC) will guide groups across an exciting off-road cyclo-cross style course. Cyclists can bring their own bikes or use bikes supplied on the day by British Cycling. The races will take place every half an hour from 11.30am to 2.30pm and will be split in to age groups, with the winners of each age group presented with a trophy.
Race times: Please note – all riders will need to pay a £1 insurance fee to British Cycling for taking part in the cyclo-cross racing.

Throughout the day, refreshments will be available from Grassroots Bicester and a delicious BBQ will be served at 12.30pm.
The BBQ will be served by The Blue Texel, based locally with their own butchers and farm shop, serving homemade burgers and a selection of tasty sausages all served with fresh salads.
