Come and join Bicester’s Bike and Family Fun Day this August

Adults and children of all ages and ability are invited to join in the fun at the third annual Bicester Bike and Family Fun Day, to be held at Pingle Field, opposite Bicester Village, on Saturday 30 August 2014.

The free event organised by A2Dominion, will this year include its very own ‘Tour de Bicester’ family cycle ride around the town, with participants collecting answers from yellow jerseys along the route ready to complete a Tour de France themed quiz at the final leg!

Following the success of last year, the prestigious Bicester Millennium Cycle Club (BMCC) will be running another exhilarating cyclo-cross with races for all age groups to experience an exciting and challenging off road course with twists, turns and ramps to compete for trophies.

Cycle repair expert – Broken Spoke – will be on hand to teach cyclists how to diagnose and fix their bikes and budding young artists will be able to make their mark on a bike themed mural. There will also be an opportunity to test the strength of cyclists’ legs on a watt-bike, take part in bicycle hoopla as well as enjoy arts and crafts activities throughout the day.

To keep energy levels up throughout the day, a “spoketacular” BBQ and drinks will be available to ensure bike day visitors are refreshed to enjoy the event.

Louise Caves, A2Dominion’s Strategic Partnership Manager for NW Bicester, said: “Each year the Bike and Family Fun Day gets bigger and better, and this year will be no exception. There will be activities for all the family to enjoy, with prizes to be won. It promises to be a great day out.

“The aim of the day is to, get people out on their bikes and promote cycling in the town as a safe, sustainable and fun way to travel and to celebrate the community spirit in Bicester. We are delighted that we are able to work in partnership with local community groups and businesses within the town to host the third annual Bike and Family Fun Day, it’s a real team effort.”

The main event will take place from 11am – 3pm but those wanting to take part in the Tour de Bicester family cycle ride will need to arrive at 10am to collect their route map and quiz entry forms.

There will be a whole host of other activities including craft activities for children such as streamers and puppet making, face painting, and novelty bikes on display.

Thames Valley Police will be offering free bike security coding to all bike owners on the day, and those without a bike can find out about how to loan a bike in Bicester from Bicester Green and cycle loan initiative.

First held in 2012, the Bike and Family Fun Day is expected to attract hundreds of local residents.

The event is organised in partnership with NW Bicester lead developer, A2Dominion, and sustainability consultants, BioRegional, with support from active local community organisation, Grassroots Bicester, Cherwell District Council Eco Bicester Team, Bicester Green Reuse Centre, BMCC and Broadribbs Cycles.
